General Technical Information

Glass

Sereno
showers are manufactured using 10mm toughened Grade A safety glass.  10mm thick glass has between 10 and 20% more stability than thinner glass.  This is especially advantageous when glass to glass hinges are used or insufficient strength and fixing is provided in the walls of the building.  Hinges are available for 90°, 135° and 180° shower lay-outs.
Fixings

Where a Crest shower door is to be hung directly off a wall sufficient fixing must be provided by the builder or owner. Normally a double stud at the hinge points will suffice as long as they are flat and support the lining evenly. A non-compressible wall lining material should be used.

Doors

Standard Crest door panels are 1940mm high (finished height 1960mm) and 680mm wide.  This provides a generous entrance space and is within the maximum weight loading for two hinges.  For smaller spaces, a 580mm wide door is available and also a standard 880mm wide door for wheelchair access.

All doors open both inwards and outwards.
Bracing

Where Crest showers require bracing this is supplied in the form of a safety glass over door brace. Also supplied is The Shower Shelf - a safety glass shelf which acts as an extra support when glue fixed as stated in the Installation Instructions.

Alcove showers (SH500 series) don’t normally require overhead bracing unless they span more than 2000mm wide. Crest also advises that shower doors should hinge off a panel no larger than 400mm wide.

Sizing

Crest
showers are available in many standard sizes to suit almost every situation. They can also be custom made to exact dimensions if necessary.
Water sealing

Frameless glass shower assemblies should be designed so that the shower rose or jets do not point at the door or entrance ways. This is particularly important where high-pressure water systems are installed. A polyvinyl dripseal for the bottom of the door is supplied with every Crest shower. These can be removed for cleaning when necessary. Optional seals are also available for vertical edges of door. Crest showers are not designed to dam any water the shower waste is incapable of carrying away.
Hardware

Crest
showers are supplied standard with bright chrome plated solid hinges and Double H handle.  This easy-clean finish is ideal for most projects as it matches the tap ware.  A variety of other finishes are available including satin and gold.  Hinges are manufactured in solid brass and are self-sprung enabling them to gently spring closed and also stay open when required.

Channels

Aluminium channels are bright chrome finished to match the hinges and handles. Other finishes are available on request and lead time will vary. The bright chrome anodised finish is designed to be very easily cleaned.
The channels are required to locate and support the glass.  They are glue fixed to the floor and wall surface and the wall channel also has 2 stainless steel screw fixings within 500mm of the top of the channel.  Owners and specifiers should always indicate the presence of concealed services, such as under floor heating in the shower location and wiring and plumbing in the wall cavities.

Tiling

Crest
showers are generally installed once tiling/vinyl has been completed.  Shower floors must slope from outside of the door into waste.  With walk-in showers the floor is ideally sloped at least 200mm past the threshold.
If slope starts more than 200mm outside shower, the door (and panels) may need to be raised during installation to clear floor.  When floor is vinyled the corner cove must not exceed a 6mm radius.
Local councils will have their own regulations regarding tiled showers and should be consulted to guarantee compliance.

Installation

Your Crest shower should be installed by qualified tradespeople or an approved Crest installer. While very simply to install, shower installation is a specialist trade and is best left to the professionals. Contact Crest for your local installer’s details.
